OnStar Telematics module - no dates for backorder part is unacceptable

my 2025 Equinox EV (4000 miles) also has a failed Telematics module (as of 2.1.25) with a "backorder" status and dealer has no idea when it'll be in. Not only does it affect OnStar, but gps/maps/charger near you dont work either. You have to guess and figure it out manually. The car thinks I'm hundreds of miles from where I actually am and doesn't change location.  This is unacceptable in any vehicle, but especially an EV which relies on the information to travel

  • Thank you for bringing this part delay to our attention. We understand the frustrations this can cause. To further clarify, are you currently working alongside a certified GM dealership regarding your OnStar hardware? If you need an additional layer of assistance regarding parts, please email socialmedia@gm.com with more information. While we cannot expedite your module, we can keep in touch with your dealer and provide any available updates along the way.

This moderators canned responses are almost as irritating as the lack of any answers!

These complaints have been going on for months with no answer from any dealership or GM!

If GM made a decision to go with a supplier with this kind of failure rate, admit it and get it corrected.

Please do not hide behind canned responses and give loyal customers an answer!

Same thing happened to my 2025 7 month old Gas Equinox RS Onstar Module stopped working on 4/11/25. Finally had time to go to the dealership on 5/2/25 and they told me the same thing that it is backordered.

I called GM multiple times, posted negatively on all social media and surprisingly my dealership had the part the next day. That's how much they don't want negative attention haha.

I’m with you and also so frustrated. After two months, I was also told today that it’s a back order and no eta. I’m in a Tahoe and my module thinks I’m in a Suburban. I had to explain this situation to many different people, multiple times during my free month, for anyone to even figure out what the issue was. I’ve been told 5 different things would fix it by onstar, yet it’s still not fixed 2 months later (headed into month 3). Dealer was supposed to try to reprogram the module I have, but said I needed a new one without even trying. To boot, Onstar even told me to go ahead and sign back up for services after my trial ended (I was told my free plan would be left on until the module came in, but have determined this was a lie), but when I did, it still wouldn’t work. Why did it work to start with? Why can’t they’re just do whatever they did when I purchased it over 2 mos ago so I have my services until it comes in? I finally got a new GM vehicle and upgraded from my 2008 suburban. I almost went with another make, but gave GM and Chevrolet another chance, only to be stuck with this mess as the reward. These features are a huge part of the reason that I made the purchase to start with! No eta is beyond unacceptable and now I’m auto paying (and likely will be for months to come) $50 USD a month for a service I can’t even use!!! I want some answers, not a response of back ordered and No ETA!!!

Exact same problem with my 2025 Equniox RS. Car spent last 4 days in shop only to determine it needs a new telematics module. Said part is on backorder with no projected eta. Could the supply chain problem be that the telematics module is manufactured in South Korea and OnStar/GM's profit margin is being negitively affected by the pending 25% tariff increase imposed on South Korea?

So the module came in June 5th, 2025. Spent 6 hours at the dealership because the service tech could not get the new module to accept the software codes. Now our new car, with approximately 2600 miles on it sits at the dealership until a GM Computer Specialist from Detroit can come down to manually write the software into the new Telematics Module. I've had a past practice of purchasing a new car every 3 to five years since 1974, and have never experienced this type of inconvenience and continuing nightmare of life-disturbing events.

Unfortunately, my 2025 Yukon Denali keeps giving me nothing but problems.

My truck has been without an OnStar service for 20 days because of DEFECTIVE Telematics module and unfortunately the dealer can only provide the Backorder with no ETA for modules to become available.

This means no OnStar, Super Cruise, Wi-Fi, Entertainment System and a BIG Check Engine light !!!

GMC needs to step up and provide the parts and service to the customers, this is a not a dealer problem, this is a known quality repetitive issue that must be resolved Immediately.

We are having the same experience and about the same time frame in Washington State. We bought a brand new 2025 Equinox EV Nov 30th, 2024, the Telemetrics module failed May 28th, 2025, and was confirmed June 4th by our Chevrolet dealer. Today what I found out is a company called Specmo (Specmo [Wholesale and OEM]), is the sole supplier of these modules for GM. When I go onto their website, I think they refurbish components and are not manufacturers. I have posed this question to Specmo and hope that I will have an answer next week. A side note, I queried who are telemetric manufacturers and Specmo is not in the top 12, so I'm a little suspicious of the claim Specmo manufactures these modules. One thing for certain is my expectation is to receive a new part not a part that has been refurbished one.

After doing more research, I found out GM as well as other car manufacturers, are experiencing chip shortages. The sole distributor for GM is a company called SPECMO. When I called and asked SPECMO for an ETA on these modules, I was told mid to late July. While that remains to be seen if that ETA is accurate, at least it is a time frame. I also asked if these modules are repairable and the answer was GM only replaces these modules with new ones.

Same problem here. Bought new 2025 Equinox EV in December 2024 and for no apparent reason all my connected apps stopped working. I cannot even update the car over the air anymore. I got the same non answer from my dealership after their service dept inspected and verified that the On Star module was to blame. “Backordered, no ETA, nothing we can do.” Similar to others, we took a big risk switching from having highly reliable Mazdas to try out the Chevy. Already looking like a big mistake.
