OnStar Module failed end October - 2025 Equinox EV LT2

Title says it all. Maps/Nav/Internet/Network provided time stopped working end of October this year. Car had under 12.000 km on it when the module went.

Two weeks later got it into the dealership to confirm that the module was in fact the culprit.

I asked the dealership to push software updates as I hadn’t received any, and the car decided it was finished, and died (wouldn’t turn on). They got the car turned back on the next day and a bunch of safety systems started to glitch out. Side impact warnings going off to nothing, had the forward collision system slam my brakes on doing 50km/h down an empty road. I had lane assist push the car right towards the sidewalk while in the middle of my lane. The vibration warnings in the seat stopped working as well.  I’ve had to shut all this stuff off. (Funny story, the side impact stuff still goes off even though it’s off)  Dealer is blaming the OnStar module for all the glitches.

It’s been 5 weeks since the part was ordered, every time I contact the dealer for an update, I’m told I’ll be called back, just to hear nothing. It’s been 2 months now since the failure occurred. I’ve tried to connect the car to wifi to push updates, but it just tells me that anything I connect has limited connectivity (home internet, phone hotspot etc) and any attempt to even check for updates just results in failure.

Maybe I was wrong to think that brand new vehicles shouldn’t have these issues, or that it shouldn’t take months to get a part in. Maybe I’m wrong to think that the place that sold it to me should return phone calls when they say they will.

The sheer amount of issues I’ve seen with the Telematics / OnStar Modules online is staggering.
Sounds like to me you have a quality issue with the manufacturer of the part. There is definitely a quantity issue as well. We shouldn’t have to wait indefinitely for a part.

  • Dealing with the vey similar issue here, 2025 Equinox EV RS purchased in May. I put just under 12,000 miles on it and in late October the telematics module failed. Brought into dealership service center on November 10th and was told it needed replacement and the module was backordered. I called back to check a couple weeks ago and they basically said "no ETA don't call us, well call you". Incredibly frustrating as I have a long commute each day and like to rely on the nav system to have an idea about traffic and my range etc. I feel naive for thinking that I wouldn't have an issue with my first ever brand new car and frankly am really bitter about the whole experience. I don't have any words of help here but completely sympathize with your experience. It just sucks.
