OnStar Light Red - Service Driver Assist Message - '25 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate

I purchased a new '25 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate about a month ago. At about 900 miles I got a 'Service Driver Assist' message every time I started the truck, and the Supercruise function would not work. The light adjacent to the OnStar button was also red. Everything else was working fine.

Then after a few days, the OnStar suddenly light turned green again and Supercruise was fine again, no more Service Driver Assist message.

Thought I was in the clear but suddenly today the red light and the error message is back, no Supercruise.

I assume a hardware issue but if the module was dead would it work intermittently like this?

Frustrating as this is an $85k truck and these features were a key factor in my purchase decision.

Same issue.  Dealer checked it and found nothing.  Has been working no it doesn’t

Finally yes. Reprogrammed the On Star module or something to that effect. The dealership was at a loss as to how to diagnose. I really think GM has no idea why this was happening.

I have the exact same thing.   Randomly it will come on and work the next day.   When I bring it in to have it looked at, they cannot recreate the error.  So  when I make my next appointment, what can I tell them to specifically reference to fix this issue?   It seems to me this cannot be new and not have a resolution.

Have the dealer look for a watchdog error.  It is an error that can be intermittent and will force a system reboot depending on the parameters.  This will cause the red light issue.  It can reset itself especially after a restart of vehicle.

It can also indicate a hardware failure.  If the tech doesn't actually troubleshoot, they may miss it.

For more info, Google "OnStar watchdog error"

Having similar issues with my Lyriq. Back to the dealer, who was of no help last time, again.

After 5 or 6 service appointments for the same issue (started in August 2025 with only a couple hundred miles) the dealership provided this information: It is a known issue. GM does not have a repair or correction as of January 9, 2026. There is a Service Bulletin, Preliminary Information - Technical. PIT6455. If there is a resolution, PIT6455 will become a TSB with instructions for the “fix”.

Ive had the same problem with the same truck.  Also have had mt cruise increase speed with me realizing it.  I mentioned it to the service center when had my first oil change and they pretty much blew me off and then at a different service center and they said “couldn’t replicate and no codes”. I thought this truck was/is GM’s best offering but Im not impressed.  There are a couple other issues as well.

Ive also had issues with the app, specifically the remote start option when out of range of the key fob.  The app fails to start the truck nearly 50% of the time.

I have an appointment next week at the local dealer for another issue (seats delaminated on the edges, they're replacing the covers.  Im confused with all of the issues as this is my 3rd Denali pick up and the first two had zero issues and this truck is called “ultimate”

  • I had the same issue yesterday.  It snowed and roads were wet with road film. Supercruise would not work. Same error messge. After reading comments I washed the truck focusing on the cameras and lidar sensors. Started and drove a few minutes, didn't go away. Shut off vehicle and went back an hour later, drove a few miles and supercruise was back. Thinking the sensors were covered in road film crud.
