Onstar Module Needs Replaced
I have a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali that I had to take in for a dealer for them to tell me the OnStar Module needed replaced. My vehicle is over the 36,000 miles so they quoted me close to $750 to fix it. This $80k truck is only a year and a half old! Mileage should have nothing to do with this part. How is this not something that is covered by GM and/or OnStar? Especially after reading about so many other brand new trucks having this issue.

Onstar,
Mileage has nothing to do with the forced Onstar contact placed on 2023 models by GMC. The contract stated 3 years of service, there is no provision for a mileage limitation in the Onstar contract. GMC should supply a device that will provide the service for the contracted time frame regardless of mileage. Selling a 3-year non-refundable service implies 3 years of implied warranty of merchantability for the device supplying the service.

That does make sense! Mine started working on my 2022 Blazer, but our truck has something draining the battery 2023 $80000 vehicle! New battery, checked 5 times now, towed in, wouldn't even jump. What the heck is wrong with these trucks?

This happened to me. 2023 Yukon AT4 with 17.5k miles. Nothing works: no wifi, no maps, no vehicle info, no onstar. Dealer says no eta on replacement onstar module. This is frustrating and ridiculous. I am now paying for onstar and cannot receive service. In addition, there is no timeline to fix this.

I just purchased a brand new 2025 Yukon Denali and all the engine light came on 20 minutes after I left the dealership. Onstar has never worked since new. I took it straight to my local dealer to get it diagnosed. After paying $95,000 for a new car everything should work especially on the drive home from the dealership. GM has no ETA on parts and I am not accepting that response. Here we go with the buy back process.

I am in the same boat, my 2023 Acadia's telematic (onstar) module is out and the dealer is got it from is saying i am SOL and have to pay for it out of pocket for a service that was supposed to be on my vehicle for 3 years not 36000 miles or less. And yet here we are after paying all that money for a vehicle and being told it has something it doesn't is ridiculous. Onstar or GMC should be fixing this not the consumer

I have been trying to figure out how this is any customers responsibility to pay to have a module fixed on a car that is a year old or less. And when I was sent an email by onstar telling me to call their connected assistance team to discuss this problem, well i called they said oh your onstar isn't connected in your 2023 Acadia. I said no kidding the module is out so they basically say it is not their problem and for me to take it up with GM. Then Onstar sends me an email stating that the 2019 buick i had came with 5 years of service and it is now out of date. I dont even have thar car anymore, traded it is on the acadia. They are no help what so ever and even after a call to them they send me back some BS email telling me my buick doesn't qualify for replacement since it is 5 years old. Oh okay but what about my 1 year old GMC? Doesn't that qualify for you to fix something it have to pay for? It really should be a recall at this point. So many dissatisfied customers that had to pay for 3 years of service whether they wanted it or not and it doesn't even work for a year. This is unacceptable and needs to be resolved and GM needs to fix it not the consumer.

has anyone filed a complaint with the NHTSA regarding onstar? https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index. Since OnStar touts their product as a safety feature the fact that it breaks seems to be a safety recall issue.

I just found out my OnStar module is out on my 2022 Chevy blazer. Worked fine. Only thing I’ve had done lately is an oil change and tire rotate. I am wondering if they did some kind of software update, but it doesn’t say anything on my receipt and they didn’t say anything to me about it. I’m under 35,000 miles. My car is not quite three years old. We’ll see what they say about replacing it.

There was a recall for the Telematics (OnStar) Module that was a software update and it had to be performed at the dealership level. It reprogrammed the module so it would shut off after it completed an over the air update as there were instances where it would not power down properly and ended up draining the battery.
My 2023 Sierra had the module fail PRIOR to the update, but it was successfully installed in my 2024 Sierra. I have been without OnStar in my 2023 for almost 6 months with no estimated date for resolution and a lot of run around from GM Customer Care and the dealership.
Hopefully your resolution process goes better than mine.

I am in the same boat. 2022 Silverado 1500 just under 60,000 miles where module needs to be replaced. Onstar needs to be held accountable for faulty modules and cover the cost. This needs to be reported to the better business burea as this is not an isolated case but something that affects many Onstar customers.

ERR! Super Cruise worked fine when I brought my 2023 Yukon in for a oil change Dec 19th.
Dealer said it has a recall to update soft wear. I said ok fine, Get er done....
Now it needs the module replaced. Let Us Know When The Part Will Ship!!! Please be honest. I love my truck and always buy GM.
Thanks.

I also just experienced the On Star module needed replacement on a 2022 GMC Denali after it stopped working 2 months ago. I am over on mileage but feel after 2 years and have to pay almost $1000 to replace this is not right. I have been a loyal GMC customer for years and not happy after this repair, I will be looking at other brands when it is time for a new one. My dealer said there is nothing that GM would do as far as a "goodwill" gesture.

I'm dealing with this now. I spoke to an OnStar rep awhile back who gave me a ticket number and a GM Service Bulletin number and told me replacement of the OnStar hardware would be covered under the recall since my warranty is out. The dealership said that is incorrect and I have to pay for the repair. The fact that this hardware is failing at the 3 year mark is ridiculous and the fact that OnStar isn't paying for this is even more ridiculous. Not only is it a widespread issue, we pay for monthly OnStar service, so this should give some sort of coverage outside of the vehicle warranty. OnStar offered me 3 months of service as compensation for my trouble. GM and OnStar need to DO BETTER for their customers!!! I'm considering buying a new vehicle, anything beside a GM product.

Update...I paid almost $1,000 to have the module replaced at a local dealer. The module was on backorder but came in within about a month. The dealer replaced it on the same day I dropped it off and it seems to be working perfectly now.

How old is your vehicle? 3 years? So, they did make you pay for the part? Did you have an extended warranty? I would think an extended warranty would cover it. Trying to figure out what to do with our 2023 Chevy truck, something is draining the battery frequently, maybe the On star from what I've seen on this blog.
