On Star module broken
I ahve a 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST and the on star module has failed. There has been no connection since 8/31/24. The dealer has said it is on backorder and no ETA when a new part will arrive. Has anyone even had their on star module replaced if having similar issue? This is very concerning and upsetting as I pay for the subscription and have also paid an annual subscription for wifi that doesn't work. The clocks in my vehicle are all off and am not getting full functionality of the vehicle I paid top dollar for. The car wouldn't start a week ago because it was sending low voltage signals to every system because of the faulty module. Luckily the dealer got it operational again but said they can't just disconnect it because that would cause too many issues. Very very frustrated here....

I have a 2023 Suburban Premier, spent a while on the phone with On Star who said the system wasn't working (no light on the button) and I should take it to Chevrolet. I did that and spent two hours with them while they diagnosed the issue and was then told the module wasn't working. 🤦♂️
They needed to order a new one and I'm still waiting for it to arrive so that I can get my services running again. - JessicaNew Contributor
I have a 2022 Buick Envision. I noticed something was wrong when the wifi wasnt working. Then i noticed i had no gos and the onstar call button didnt work. My vehicle only had roughly 35k miles onnot. Based on what im reading, it’s most likely the module as well. Ridiculous to have this kind of issue on almost brand new vehicles.

I have a 2022 Chevy Tahoe with the same issues as everyone has listed above. It seems that I’ve been without service for at least four months or more. The only way I found out that my OnStar in my vehicle was not working was that I was going to add a Wi-Fi hotspot when I went to check it wasn’t working. When I called OnStar, they didn’t even attempt to assist me. They asked if the light next to the OnStar button was on when I told him no they immediately told me to go to the dealership. The customer service at least with the service agent. I was speaking to was utterly disgusting. When I went to the dealership, not only did they tell me that I would have to drop off my car and it would need to spend a couple days there (to check ONE THING) they also told me that any repair would be out-of-pocket also my vehicle only has 36,000 miles on it and it just recently dropped out of warranty. If we are paying for a subscription monthly, you would think that the hardware would be covered.(like somebody said above like the cable company hardware) but it seems like it’s not. I really can’t afford to be without my car for several days and then have to pay by the looks of it almost $1000 to get it fixed. Something needs to be figured out.

Sounds like GM is moving away from customer service and more profits. GM needs to do a better job with AMERICA first agenda and taking care of the GM customers

My username says it all. Adding to this growing list. 2023 Sierra Denali Ultimate, -28k miles. I noticed my infotainment system wasn't working in February 2025. Tried all the usual resets. Contacted o star directly on my phone because the one touch button wasn't illuminated. Onstar tried their go to tactics, to blame everyone but themselves, and referred me to the dealership. Dealership stated it was a failed onstar module and would order the part. Still waiting! Yesterday, I called the dealership and they told me there was a backlog for the part and no estimated time for this to be over. WHY? We work too hard and already pay too much for these vehicles. We have options and we should demand that these companies be held accountable. What are you doing to fix it GM/Onstar? This is unacceptable. FIX IT!

Did you ever get it fixed?

Negative. The amount of feature that this module controls is absurd and should be embarrassing for these companies. Emergency services through Onstar/safety, navigation system, WiFi, remote services, diagnostics, remote access, and god knows whatever else I'm unaware of what this thing controls. 🤷🏽♂️

The same thing happened a few months ago on my 2023 Yukon. There is no warranty coverage. The dealer did the recall reprogramming, and a week later, both the Onstar and TCM were defective; it ended up costing $1846 TO MAKE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RESET. Labor was the most significant part $1100, $220/hr. Onstar has never offered to extend my service for the time I could not use the service due to the parts shortage. I didn't even get the canned response given to you. Four months later, a fuel injector went bad (not covered past 36,000mi because it's not part of the powertrain), which came to $1700, of which labor was $1474. I'm done with GM

This is the exact same thing I'm going through now.

Wow, there seems to be a lot of issues with these OnStar modules. I too have the issue on my 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV. It started out just being an intermittent issue and I tried to get it into the dealer, but they never answered or returned my calls. I finally got a hold of them after the OnStar unit failed completely and I did a bad Google review and complaint on the BBB website. They got me in right away to confirm the unit was failed. The service manager has a request in for the part, but it is on backorder and no estimate of when they'll get it. It is crazy that something like this part can be so critical to so many systems on the vehicle. I can't reply to texts, can't talk on the phone without background noise, can talk on any app based communications (i.e. my office phone number, Facetime, facebook messenger voice, etc...), don't have GPS signal, no Super Cruise, no auto updated time/date, no remote access through the app, and more. Just as everyone else has expressed...it is so frustrating. Definitely discourages me from buying another car with OnStar. I had a Silverado EV in mind, but I don't know now.

My dealer amazingly got the part in to fix this OnStar issue (Telematics Control Unit). It was $715 with the diagnostic fee, labor, and parts. Surprisingly my breakdown coverage through GEICO covered this part and I only paid the $250 deductible. Now everything works once again. It is still ridiculous that it is such a hard part for the dealer to get and that so many of them go out in the first place.

I have an issue with my 2024 blazer rs ev. I have had the Onstar module replaced in February right after I bought the car because it was giving me error message and since then I have not been able to get a update on my vehicle’s charging status nor can I use my car remote commands through the app. Nobody seems to know what is going on and why I have no app use! I want to make a complaint because I have been dealing with this since I bought the car and nobody can fix the issue.

I have a 2023 Yukon Denali. I hate it. My compass doesn’t work , my clock does not keep accurate time and my speed limit sign has disappeared. What junk. If Chevrolet can’t put reliable components in a car this expensive. Don’t put them in in. And now on a trip to FL my windshield washer quit dispensing water. I had a Ford Expedition for 11 years. Nothing failed. What a workhorse. I should have bought another Ford.

My gas 25 Equinox's module gave out after 7 months as well. took it 5/2/25 to the dealership and they told me they have no idea when they can replace it. And that my covered warranty to replace it free expires after 36,000 miles but they can apply to chevy to get it free if I do go over the 36,000 miles but they couldn't guarantee that GM would approve it. Onstar needs to extened my free 8 years after it gets fixed if even it does for the months the model was not fixed. This is a safety issue if you get into an accident.
