Telematic Control Module needs replacement, but backordered with no ETA?! UNACCEPTABLE
My 2024 Equinox EV 2RS (Purchased brand new in November '24, only 1,568 miles on to-date) is now in the dealership for the third time due to what was thought to be a 12v battery problem. Turns out, it was a faulty Telematic Control Module that needs replacing, and the dealership that's working on it says GM has no timetable/ETA for the part?! The amount of posts on here reflecting how frequently this is happening should make GM want to have THOUSANDS of these parts on hand for immediate deployment, not arbitrarily informing dealerships, "There's no ETA." I'm a new mom and back to work for the first time since giving birth in October, and being unable to count on a vehicle to simply work is beyond defeating.

FWIW, recent class action lawsuit against GM was represented by DiCello Levitt LLP and Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C. I believe they've made about $66M off that litigation.
I'm going to contact both firms, and see if they'd like to start another one. - aagNew Contributor II
2025 Chevy Equinox EV. 9 months later. Same exact problem. How is there no class action lawsuit / forced buyback program yet?

Can your team ensure that part seemingly going out on hundreds of vehicles isn't backordered for weeks or months, so my vehicle can be repaired the day it's diagnosed?

Same here for my 25 Blazer EV. And for those of you who don't know this, the Blazer and Equinox EV shipped with an infotainment system that has NO CarPlay or Android Auto. What that means is that we have ZERO navigation system options at all. And more concerning for us, no ability to easily plan routes that may require charging stops.
Without those capabilities we are basically driving $60,000 golf carts.
But don't worry, the advisers keep telling me they will contact the dealer....
This is likely my last GM product, and I have ONLY driven GM my entire life.- joh34New Contributor II
Update. My OnStar module repair was completed, just short of 30 days without service. Car is now, at least, functioning as it should.

Just got my 2024 Equinox EV back from the dealer. Had to wait about three weeks for replacement telematics control module to come in. Not too bad. Took about two hours to replace. Everything works great now and I just hope it stays that way!

Same issue here with the 2022 GMC Sierra Temematic Control Module
right at 3 years of ownership. Actually did not notice this for some time since I rarely use onstar. Now I am having to spend my money and time to this replaced. Dealership quoted me $700...- Advisor_JackModerator

Has anyone thought about taking this to the MEDIA? News outlets? Reply if you have connections… I’m camera friendly.

Good to see the moderators on here copying and pasting the same reply. I don't think it matters if the vehicle is under warranty or not as mine is under warranty and I am getting the same old song and dance everyone else is. I called last week, and the dealer still has no ETA. I asked if there's a way to elevate the issue and they mentioned the backorders automatically ping GM. It's obviously not helping so maybe one of these moderators can help!!??

NATIONWIDE RECALL. That’s the only way we will get something done with this issue!

They say they will help you, they say they will communicate with the dealership. But these moderators aren’t doing anything unless you still have a warranty. They offer cost assistance ask you to give them a quote and to send them the diagnostic information only to turn around and tell you they can’t help. Why make the consumer go through all of that with false hope just to be let down again. It’s bad enough the module isn’t working, plus they want you to keep your service in order to help you so you’re paying for service that isn’t working, then they disappoint you again… NOT FAIR AND UNACCEPTABLE.

I don't think the warranty makes any difference? My car is 6 months old on a lease and they are doing the same thing with me.

I've been reaching out once a month to see if there is an update. I was told the part number changed, but that it is still on backorder. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Are they just not making that one anymore? Is there a new, updated one we should get as a replacement?

NATIONWIDE RECALL… let’s demand GM issue a RECALL on these modules.

Same experience. Telematic module has failed . Confirmed by our dealer with part backordered with no ETA for part. 2025 Equinox EV level 2 options.
I would like to know from OnStar: What is the failure rate for this module?
Will the replace module have 5g instead of 4g? This module has been in production since 2015.

These moderators aren’t helping anyone. They’re just doing their due diligence to GM and trying to keep you the consumer complacent and quiet by offering you their help. They make you do a bunch of things and have private conversations with you just to disappoint you and tell you there’s nothing they can do. They can REALLY HELP by doing something about it. Onstar being part of GM should push for a NATIONWIDE RECALL on this module… that would help!

Sameboat. 2025 Chev Equinox EV 5000 miles on it. Week 2 with no replacement in site. GM should acknowledge what the problem is. Design or supply. It is my understanding that the same module has been in production since 2015, using 4G as cellular service. Are they about to release a new module using 5G service?

I have a 2024 Traverse with 2200 miles on it. At 1500 miles I noticed I couldn't turn on the data sharing hot spot button (greyed out) have been on the phone with OnStar several times and had it to the dealer several times. Yesterday I sat at the dealership for 3 hours while they replace my Telematic Control Module. They said it was all finished. I tried to turn on the hot spot sharing data button and it still doesn't work. So even replacing the module didn't help!!!

Hey everyone! Just wanted everyone to know that if an Onstar representative reaches out to you and says they can help you chances are THEY CANT AND WONT… unless your car is still under warranty. My car is a 2022 Buick Envision. I have A LOT of highway miles on it… that’s why finance… my module went out in DECEMBER. Just recently a rep said they can try to help me… I even go as far as sending them a QOUTE! Well guess what…after all that back and forth the ONSTAR rep tells me they can’t help me with this because I’m out of warranty! If I still had a warranty we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now… I’d be getting the problem fixed. The whole reason for reaching out in this forum was to try to get some help…not to be told something I already know! It still doesn’t EXCUSE the fact that my car is LESS THAN 3 years old with a failed Onstar module! The part is on back order, the dealer wants to charge $1000+ to fix, and I’m STILL paying for service I don’t have SINCE DECEMBER! Does everyone see the issue here? It doesn’t matter that I’ve been a loyal customer to GM for over 30 years, it doesn’t matter that I’ve paid for the premium packages in EVERY VEHICLE I’ve owned with Onstar, none of that matters. No one cares! I think it’s time to say goodbye to GM and go with their competitors and forget Onstar altogether!
GM needs to step up their A game and issue a Customer Satisfaction recall on this module before they lose consumers by the droves! Shame on Onstar! Shame on GM!
if people are still planning a class action lawsuit IM ALL IN!
