MyGMC Trailer Light Test
My GMC trailer light test functionality appears to have been removed or lost in the most recent update of the app - March 2025. I use this feature frequently. I called OnStar support today 3/9/2025 and they seemed confused regarding this trailer light testing feature. How do I get this trailer light test functionality restored in the app?

I too noticed this today. I connected to my trailer and went to run the light test in the app like normal and it is nowhere to be found. I chatted online with an advisor and they seemed to not know what I was talking about. They suggested I uninstall and reinstall the app. The trailering functions in the app were very helpful.

Same here. No help at all.

I’m going to reach out to my dealership today to see if they can offer any insights. Additionally, I’m hopeful that OnStar will respond to these posted messages. The trailering features in the app were / are key to successful, convenient, and safe trailering using my GMC 3500HD truck. If this turns out to be a deliberate OnStar / MyGMC decision to permanently remove the trailering features from the app, after these features being operational for over 6+ years, I’ll be canceling my OnStart account.
I’ll post again after I speak with the dealership.

I too got seriously disappointed when I picked my boat up from winter storage and grabbed my phone to start the light test, only to find all the pro grade trailering features gone from the app.
This is wholly unacceptable by GM to remove this feature. The worst part of it is that there was no notification…just gone with an update. I am seriously disappointed too. And I may also cancel my On Star service. I’ve had OnStar enabled on my vehicles since October of 1996…but as of late, my overall satisfaction with OnStar and anything software related GM is doing is waning.
This feature was very valuable to me. Apparently nobody at GM bothered checking with users to see what they actually used. The other thing they took away was the trailering loading calculator. Can’t imagine this was expensive to keep in the app either…whole thing is consistent with the overall poor infotainment software experience in my Yukon XL.
Not sure why I’d expect to lose a feature after paying $86,000 for a vehicle and then sending in $40 a month for an OnStar subscription. Cmon GM…do you even care about your customers?- rlytleNew Contributor
From what I've heard this isn't a GM problem. Onstar deleted this service to improve customer experience.

Onstar is GM, they are a subsidiary. So GM shares what Onstar does. This however does not explain how removing this feature “improves” the customer experience.
We’re now getting into RV season. There’s going to be a lot of upset GM owners finding out a feature has been removed and they can’t remotely test their camper lights. My partner and I bought our first camper at the end of February and I was excited to have this feature for towing it.

Just found this same issue yesterday. The trailering features, especially the light test, might’ve been my favorite app feat.

Why is it missing from the app?

So frustrating. "simplifying" the user experience was having the bloody feature in the app. Now you have to initiate it from the infotainment system, run to the back of the trailer, meanwhile test is halfway finished by time you get to the rear of the trailer so have to wait for it to cycle through a second time.
I'm a recent addition to the GMC family, I've only owned my GMC Canyon for 7 months. In that time two features have been removed by GMC that I used. The first to go was the remote integration with Amazon Alexa. Now they've removed a very necessary feature from the app.

We just re-newed our plan and cannot find the features to test trailer lights on our IOS app Onstar support had us remove and reinstall. No success the next support person now wants us to reset our radio. Very frustrated the main reason to resign for connected service was for this convenient feature.

I just canceled my On-Star because of the trailer light test issue. Everything else they removed is somewhat redundant and if they will remove these features, what's next? Prices keep going up, features going away and product quality is going down.

Hey Advisor_Jack, the issue is the words come out that OnStar cares…but in reality the only “care” is whether a customer sends in $$ every month. Possibly this was a low used feature, but I kind of doubt it. It was super convenient and I used it probably twice a week all summer. It impressed my friends too…now it’s gone. I’m pretty close to following Brad’s lead. What does it take for you to actually listen to your customers??

I agree with all these comments. That was my favorite feature on the app. I can’t believe they got rid of it.

Besides the remote start, the trailer light test was the best part about the app. Worked at the beginning of March and gone the next time I hooked up my trailer a couple weeks later. These advisors make empty apologies and say they are documenting our concerns with the removal of a very important feature. 2 months later and it seems they are not listening or caring. Very disappointing. I bought a truck because I tow stuff!! Listen to your customers for once and bring back the trailering feature of the app.

Like others, I was extremely frustrated to find the light test feature removed. I also contacted support multiple times and they had no idea what I was referring to. I would cancel my service but it was prepaid thru a $1500 charge in the cost of my truck. Very disappointed in GM/onstar

Trailer light testing is one of the features I use the most. Please make it a priority to get back
