Onstar Module Needs Replaced
I have a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali that I had to take in for a dealer for them to tell me the OnStar Module needed replaced. My vehicle is over the 36,000 miles so they quoted me close to $750 to fix it. This $80k truck is only a year and a half old! Mileage should have nothing to do with this part. How is this not something that is covered by GM and/or OnStar? Especially after reading about so many other brand new trucks having this issue.

Yep. Took my 2023 Yukon Denali in for an oil change at 47,000 miles. Picked it up and now the module doesn't work and needs to be replaced. $750 out of pocket with no line of sight to getting the part off backorder. What a mess GM and OnStar have on their hands. This needs to be made right.

Exact same issue with my 2022 Yukon with 48,000 miles. Interesting correlation to all the threads I have seen on here. Defective product, no recall? Class action?

I have a 22 GMC Sierra evolution I bought this in 23 with only 44 miles when I got to 36873 OnStar went out and I was told I must pay 800 to get it fixed or just put for the 10-year plan with OnStar for nothing.. time for a class action

Hi there,
We understand your frustration with needing an OnStar module replacement on your 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, especially given the vehicle's age and cost. Generally, warranty coverage applies up to 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, which is why the replacement may fall outside of standard coverage due to mileage.
We recommend reaching out to your GMC dealer to discuss possible assistance options, including goodwill coverage. Let us know if there’s any other way we can help and feel free to send an email to socialmedia@gm.com, Please include ATTN: OnStar Community/purduecarter in the subject line.

I have a 2022 GMC under 50k miles and 2 years old, I have been having issues while driving like vibration on the steering wheel, no wifi. Took it to the dealership to fix it and it took them 1 week to get it diagnosed, and they never called me to let me know about the situation or diagnosis I always had to call them. Last Saturday the service advisor told me it's almost done and will be ready by today or on Monday. When I called yesterday the advisor told me it's almost done and it shouldn't take any longer than Tuesday. I spoke with the manager because there was no point in speaking with the advisor since I don't think he has no idea what's going on. The manager told me I need to replace the Onstar module and it's been back ordered and he has no idea when it will be delivered. When I told him about the situation he was bit rude saying I can't do anything it might take a week a month or over an year. Unacceptable, I asked to talk to his manager and he told me you can't he is in a meeting right now and he'll call back and I was pretty sure he is not gonna do it so I asked for his manager's email, then he said let me transfer you. So I spoke to the Service Director, really good guy explained everything talked with the team with on giving wrong information but he told be there nothing more than he can do because it's the manufacturer's responsibility to make products and ship them on time but unfortunately it's been back ordered and it could take about a month it get it but once delivered they can fix it in a day. Onstar have to deal with the back ordered issue, imagine buying a 75,000 dollar truck and having issues and they can't fix it on time. Totally unacceptable.

After doing more research, I found out GM as well as other car manufacturers, are experiencing chip shortages. The sole distributor for GM is a company called SPECMO. When I asked them for an ETA on these modules, I was told mid to late July. While that remains to be seen if that ETA is accurate, at least it is a time frame. I also asked if these modules are repairable and the answer was GM only replaces these modules with new ones.

I’m having the same issue with my phone 2022 GMC sierra - over the mileage and under 3 years ownership. What a sorry way to deal with customers that spend $80k on a truck.

Same issue. I have a 2022 Sierra 2500 AT4. 6 months over the 3 years, but 5500 miles under the 36K. OnStar wont connect at all. No lights (Red or Green). Dealer wants almost $800 to diagnose and replace the unit. Unacceptable. What's up OnStar, any plans to rectify this? Seems to be a lot of newer vehicles with this issue....

Did you start having these issues with the Telematic Control Module/Onstar Module shortly after getting your vehicle back from the service department?

Has anyone thought about taking this to the MEDIA? News outlets? Reply if you have connections… I’m camera friendly.

So I must know, did everyone start having these issues with the Telematic Control Module/Onstar Module shortly after getting your vehicle back from the service department?
- FletchNew Contributor III
Pretty much. You'll find several mentions of that amongst the complaints here. A software update killed it. Given that it killed so many, it's likely the update that did it and not the mechanic doing the update - unless the instructions they were following were defective.

Well I took my truck in to have the Evap purge canister replaced, they took multiple days to do a 1hr job. Then when I get my truck back all of a sudden my trucks WiFi/Onstar doesn’t work. And I noticed that my glove box no longer worked properly, which told me they had to have taken it apart, and right behind the glove box is where the Telematic Control Module is which controls all of that. They had no reason to be messing with any thing inside my dash.
