2023 GMC Sierra- Module Fail
Bought my truck new April 2023. Like most new GMC Sierra they come with 2 year subscription with OnStar. My two year subscription expired two days ago 4/17/25. The same day it expired my OnStar functions all went out and my battery light came on. I didn’t notice anything wrong with the way the truck was running, I just notice all functions like the blue bottom, SOS button, GPS etc weren’t working. I was unable to call OnStar through the blue button. After, having a scan done the report showed two faults, P00FF- BCM and P0562 Low voltage. After, having the mechanic check the BCM, Battery and alternator out, everything tested to be positive with no issues. So, I decided to renew my OnStar subscription to shortly find out from OnStar that my truck needs to go to the dealer to have new OnStar module put in. It seems odd how all this happened at the same time of my subscription expired. Everything was working just fine and no check engine prior to expiration date. Anyone else having this issue?

It’s beyond a nightmare! Most companies would be out of business by now! Look above… now look at the OnStar HOT MESS EXPRESS!!

Judy, I agree. I can’t believe there’s not a class action lawsuit against them. I can’t believe GM hasn’t put a stop to this scandal. OnStar work just like updates on your cell phone. Apple can do an update to slow your battery down so you have to go get another phone or battery put in. OnStar programs the module to go out at end of your dealer subscription so you have to go in and get a new one. Unfortunately, your situation is a little different than the norm. It’s all a scam and they know it. OnStar would be out of business if they did their job and warranty all the modules instead of having the customer foot the cost. It blows my mind how many people have had an issue with OnStar and there modules. I get it, it’s frustrating calling into OnStar and getting transfer over and over just to get zero answers, but to go back to the dealer. OnStar should have a platform just for this issue and supply a way to reboot or program your car system without dealing with the dealer. I mean they can tell you everything else that’s wrong with your car, but they cant seem to help or fix the problem. OnStar’s favorite motto “ take it back to the dealer”! WHAT A JOKE!

I just bought a brand new Chevy Tahoe High Country and I have no OnStar access as of today. I even signed up for the 79.99 plan to roll over when the trial ended today. The InStar tech said I may need to return it to the dealer to get it fixed. I was not nice. The dealer already had my vehicle for 4 days to put brand new downloaded to my infotainment center. And then to be told I need to return?? Not happy. Also, received a message from Chevy stating my oil is critically low at 38%. I have only driven it 4 times in 6 weeks. What am I missing? I’m very frustrated to say the least. These vehicles are very expensive!!

At this point! I have contacted OnStar no less than a dozen times with different issues. I’m beginning to think this company is a total joke and a waste of money! Does Chevrolet know just how extremely bad this company and their service, or lack of, really is? My questions now are:
- Where is my monthly diagnostic report I’m supposed to receive each month to my email?
2. Why isn’t my 79.99 OnStar plan providing me with Theft Alerts? Why am I not able to have this information sent to my email or text message on my phone? OnStar doesn’t allow me to select one or both and are “grayed” out.3. Why can’t I see all of my OnStar info in my Chevy app? Do not tell me to delete app and reload, which means wiping all of my Chevy information from my app. I’ve learned the hard way, finally after 3 or 4 times and refuse to delete the Chevy app again. It appears that OnStar does not sync with the Chevrolet app whatsoever!
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG ONSTAR???? Why are you stealing money from your customers and not providing ANY of the services we pay for??? I am beyond frustrated and I’ve only had my brand new Tahoe High Country for about 6 weeks. If this is what I have to look forward too, it’s going to be an extremely bumpy ride. It’s pretty sad that I can’t say one single positive thing about ONSTAR even after 6 weeks. At this point, thank God for Verizon Wireless for never failing me with their GPS system! The INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM in my truck is a hot mess!!!
