On-Star Telmetric Module Failed
I bought my 2023 Chevy Tahoe brand new in 2022. On-star Module Failed a week ago. Dealership said my extended warranty did not cover it. Part is back-ordered with no ETA. They made me pay for the part before they'd even order it. From what I've read this is a widespread problem that chevy and on-star have known about. I very angry because the whole reason I bought this car was for the entertainment package that no longer works. From also what I've read it could be months before it comes in if it comes in at all. Something needs to be done.

Update: I did have to pay for the module before they ordered it, but they have my Tahoe now and the part came in yesterday and they are fixing it. I pray nothing else goes wrong.

Glad to hear that you are getting the repairs completed now. I have a 2023 Buick Envision and noticed 2 weeks ago that the OnStar button was not lit up, my navigation wasn’t working. I called OnStar and was told I needed to contact my dealership, which I did. I was told the module was on back order with no ETA. I am going on vacation the end of this month and the end of June and I will be driving my vehicle. Was hoping to have my OnStar fixed by then for the navigation as well as for safety. Well we will see.

2022 silverado trail boss. module broke at 51k miles and got quoted $900 to fix. just adding more posts since this appears to be a common issue even at low-medium miles.

Called BUICK directly but it’s actually General Motors Customer Care and filed the safety complaint with them
Spoke with Sophia. I have a case number and they said a regional representative will contact me… I informed Sophia two complaints have been filed with NHTSA and FTC. She said I wasn’t the first she heard of this issue and they are documenting ALL CALLS… so call that number, have your VIN # ready and file your complaints. Remember the number I called is actually GM Customer Care…

Newest report filed with Federal Trade Commission
it is fraudulent and unfair practice to communicate that it is safe to drive vehicles that have the potential of shutting down on a consumer mid drive because of the Telematics Module malfunction. The module is a defect and should be replaced at NO COST to the consumer. Demand a SAFETY RECALL.

Here is the NHTSA Safety Complaint form again if you need to report your module. It is a safety hazard especially if your vehicle SHUTS DOWN MID DRIVE… National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

The telematics module when it began to malfunction drained my battery mid drive. I was on my way to work that morning. The AAA guy said something was severely draining my battery. The alternator tested good, he even suggested I shut the auto stop off. I got a jump and was good for two weeks then it happened again while I was at a stop light in NYC. Completely SHUT DOWN! I called AAA again. He tested my battery and said it was dead. My safety systems stopped working but my alternator was still good. He gave a jump, it started but the car idled funny. I made it home, bought a new top of the line battery, and took it to the dealership. They couldn’t tell me what was wrong. Two weeks after that visit my Onstar went out completely, safety features giving me all these crazy alerts, engine light on and off, I took it back to the dealership. It was the telematics module and hence my fight with Onstar, the dealership, and this nonsensical notion that I should pay over 1000$ to fix something that was failing for quite some time and never properly diagnosed. I’m out of warranty and was told it didn’t matter anyway because the module isn’t cover under warranty. My battery which I installed less than a year ago is beginning to drain again. This is a SAFETY issue and had I had been on the highway when this happened and probably will happen again then how am I safe? I can only pray other cars will be able to stop on time or get out of the way safely if it happens again. I have to drive. I live about 100 miles away from work and travel the highways daily. I reported my issue with the module to the NHTSA since I’m getting nowhere with Onstar, dealership or GM. I pray this doesn’t happen to you…

DONT stay quiet… Don’t let what is happening to me and so many others happen to you! You are a valued consumer spending your hard earned money to invest in these vehicles. Don’t be fooled… OnStar is a product of GM. They can’t help you even if they invite you to a private conversation… I tried that too so have many others that have voiced their disappointment with their attempt to “assist”. They can’t. This module is not covered under warranty. They pride themselves on safety and security for your vehicle and charge you for all of these features…
Imagine this scenario:
You’re doing 65 on a frequently traveled highway with trucks buses and cars going to work like usual. All of a sudden your car shuts down without WARNING. You have an 18 wheeler just yards behind you in the middle lane, you can’t steer, you can’t brake, you can’t press on the gas, you can’t put your hazards BECAUSE NOTHING WORKS!
Your life begins to flash before your eyes and you think… does the truck have time to stop? Is it going to be able to switch lanes in time without hitting another car? Will I survive an impact at 65 mph? You can’t even use your phone to call anyone and tell them you love them BECAUSE NOTHING WORKS! You certainly can’t press the SOS button for OnStar BECAUSE THAT DOESN'T WORK EITHER!!!Scarey isn’t it? All because the telematics module caused everything to MALFUNCTION.
When is GM going to do something about this module before something like this happens?

I have a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 and my module went out and had it replaced after only a year old and now it is out again!! Please tell me there is a fix and I don’t have to pay for it!! It’s ridiculous to have to replace it with another one for its 3rd module and it’s only 3 years old!! Please help
