Bring back the weather app!
I discovered yesterday that the Weather Channel app has been discontinued. I'm not happy about this! I use this app constantly. It's really the only add on app that I use in the car. I love it when I'm driving long distances alone and I need to check the weather. It's so much safer to look at the radar quickly on the screen vs trying to pull it up on my phone while I'm driving. I live in the Midwest and the weather can change quickly, especially in the spring and summer. OnStar is about being safe in your vehicle. I can't think of any apps that they offer that are more important to safety than the weather app. Please bring it back! I will definitely pay a little extra to have the app. It's important to me and my safety! I called OnStar yesterday to let them know my concerns about this decision. I hope they decide to bring it back!

Most importantly, the weather channel app would sent alert notifications directly to the screen while driving. What are you doing GM? Removing the weather channel makes absolutely no sense. Its the most relied on app in the vehicle.

Majority of the apps within the vehicle are not even useful. The weather channel was and I used it everyday.

As GMC owners who pay for OnStar to provide access to app that GMC says are available for customers, it looks like we have been DOGEd. With that being said, the only reason I have the basic plan was for WC app and IHeart app. All the other apps including MAP+ are worthless and really are not worth a subscription. I also have the extended data plan. The only reason I got that was when I am driving in an area with marginal cell service, I can use the trucks wifi hotspot for cell instead of phone. External antenna is usually best for reception. I am now wondering if that thought process was bad. I am thinking of dropping OnStar at the end of this next billing cycle. I have not had the great experience with their service over the years and all I need is a key fob and Apple Car-net for most of what I need including Weather Channel and IHeart radio. Only thing I am stuck on now is the extended data plan. Not sure I need that. I do like the hotspot advantage though. Any thoughts from you other users.

We all are pissed they dropped the weather channel. It was an important feature to warn us of bad or life-threatening weather. All they have said is they dropped the app over a contract problem. Which probably just means that the weather channel wanted more money. First, we lost our phone service through OnStar now this. Makes us wonder just what we are getting for out money anymore.

Here is the sad thing about not having Weather Channel app anymore. If GMC was not so cheap and gave us the extended Sirius receiver in our vehicles, we could sign up for Siriux travel link like I did in my 2017 VW and have weather, road updates and numerous other travel link info for $80 a year. So, GMC, in order to sell this OnStar crap, you elected not to give us the extended Siruix xm receiver so we had to get OnStar to get travel and weather. What we pay OnStar only gives up marginal traffic updates, now no weather, and for a cost of $288/year. If I could update infotainment system to use the better Siriux xm receiver I would and totally dump OnStar. You got us by the nads for now, but if I find a way to upgrade my infotainment system to use the extended Siruix xm reciver, your gone and I will make sure to post the path here. The only Siruix xm service I use is the travel link product in my VW. Good product, better than OnStar for much less.

Let us ALL know how you make out. They didn't even give us a notice or a reason just here one day gone the next. If they can remove it so quick they sure an hell could restore it or give us an alternative.

Just today found out Weather Channel was missing on my 2021 GMC Sierra. Contacted OnStar and was told it was no longer available. It was explained to me that it was a decision by Weather Channel to discontinue the service and not GM. I pay the $15 per month for the WiFi. I bought a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali brand new and it never has had Weather Channel available, and I have the whole OnStar package on it. No SirrusXM as I use Pandora or my phone on CarPlay. GMC needs to negotiate with Weather Channel to bring it back. What I never have understood as to why CarPlay doesn’t allow all apps on my iPhone to be available on the GM infotainment system.

I totally agree. I really miss the Weather Channel app. And other Apple Car Playapps do not work well.

I doubt GM is going to bring back TWC app. They are trying and in the process with new electric vehicles to use their own platform. That means no more CarPlay and Android. Currently I have MyRadar installed and using the free version. It actually gives better map displays than the poor weather map that TWC provided. Better contrast means less fiddly while driving. The IHeart app free version gives me the same usage and features as the one provided by GM and OnStar. Prior to next billing cycle I will drop the $15 extended data plan and see if I lose much. I doubt I will. After that, the final nail will be the connected plan. I don`t use the phone to start truck and the GM app on phone has always had a few bugs. As long as the remote start with key fob works, I will be happy. Currently for what I get, $ 27 per month is just not providing the services I expected when I first signed up for OnStar. Now with my iPhone 16, if I get in a wreak or something happens, it will contact someone or pop a screen asking if I need help if I am still alive. My phone is programed to text, email people of choice if something happens. After a few weeks of use, IOS CarPlay is proving to be better than OnStar. For those wondering what apps work with CarPlay, do internet search for CarPlay apps and you will find quite a few. The TWC app for iPhone is not CarPlay compatible. No loss as MyRadar so far is a better app and approved by Apple for CarPlay. One last thing. If you want Navigation to always be accurate with OnStar, you will need to purchase a new and latest map SD card every year. No need with CarPlay since apple is always keeping it`s map up to date for, wait for it, free. So, with that said, you're not going to get TWC app back and frankly OnStar and GM are not looking at what their customer wants and needs are. Old platform that is not using continuous improvement to stay up to date with what users want and need.

I have the same reservations, but I must be a little more pissed. Taking away functionality is not an advancement. I should of not come to the dark side and just stayed with ford. I love my cadi V, but taking any feature away is crossing the line for a continuously paying customer.
if a new shopper is reading this, do not purchase the car for its technology as they will dumb it down after the ink dries.

I got in the car this morning and was happy to see the app is back. 😁 I hope this is permanent. This made my day.

What model care do you have? It did not come back on my Buick Encore GX.

It's not back for me either. Checked the app store - nothing. 2020 Equinox Premier. Slow roll out I hope. We need it back!! Or another weather app!

Not back. Just lies got me all excited it was back and then it wasn’t

Your right I have a 2021 GMC Serria and it is not back. If they don't come up with something soon a bunch of us will be dumping onstar. We don't get what we pay for at all. And gmc wants me to buy new SD cards every year to update my navigation to.

You must be special because I ran out to my car to see if it was restored and no such luck. Looks like a few others still don’t have it yet either. Hopefully it’s a scheduled roll-out and we all eventually get it.

I agree with others that the TWC app for weather was useful. If not TWC, replace it with something of equal value!. It drives me crazy that apps are removed or stop working because of a lack of effort on GM’s part. I use the Dash app as well (now Litt) and that app is not working correctly because it hasn’t been updated. Essentially I have a vehicle that is less than two years old and I’m stuck with an infotainment system that is already losing functionality. Come on GM, you can do better than this!!

Yes they need to bring it back! This weekend was full of bad weather tornadoes etc! It would have been nice to have a working weather app on my car!
