OnStar Telematics Module Stopped Working

2021 Yukon, 42k miles, GPS, Onstar completely disconnected. Check Engine light came on. Looking through this forum, it is a known issue and I am on the hook to pay $1300 for this? I am shocked that GM isn't standing by its product and recalling/replacing the batch of OnStar modules.
