Alexa skill for My Chevrolet no longer available
We appreciate your feedback and sentiments about how you enjoyed this feature in your Chevrolet Silverado. As we mentioned in an earlier post, OnStar has discontinued the vehicle mobile apps Skill feature for Amazon Alexa-supported devices. Our goal is to provide our members access to OnStar, wherever they are. We found that our members prefer to use remote commands in their vehicle mobile apps. In response, we’ve decided to end the Alexa Skill for the MyChevrolet app. With this, the Alexa Built-in will not be sunsetting, and all in vehicle functionality will remain the same. Only commands from your home to your car will be sunsetting. That being said, Members can still use remote commands to perform the same functions that were available via Alexa, with an active eligible service plan. If you have any other questions at this time, we would be happy to help.
This is one of the most idiotic moves possible. Why would you un-automate starting your vehicle? Our purpose with smart devices is for automation but now you went backwards and removed it. Instead of convenience it's inconvenience. I've got a $80,000 truck that won't start automatically with my smart home system. There's no way the GM performed a survey and that the general consensus was to do away with the app that's a lie. GM is pathetic! This is no common sense at all!!!!

Thank you for the feedback relating to the myChevrolet skill for Amazon Alexa. Here at OnStar, our main goal is to provide our Members access to services, no matter where they are. We found that our Members prefer to use remote commands their vehicle mobile apps, rather than home smart devices. We are always looking to improve for the future, and have documented your comments for awareness. If you have any questions or more to share, feel free to send us a private message.

Understood, but I’d like to see the supporting information. We were never presented with a survey or any member preference setting to indicate that “Members prefer” this change. As it stands, it feels more like a downgrade (shrinkflation) than a preference-based improvement. Please confirm what replaces the dropped service, whether there’s any way to retain it (even as an add-on), and if not, whether a third-party provider can offer an equivalent solution.

The satisfaction of our loyal and dedicated Members is of the utmost importance to us, and we appreciate this additional input surrounding the discontinuation of the mobile app Skill feature for Amazon Alexa-connected home devices. Please note that the Alexa Built-in feature is still available in properly-equipped vehicles, and offers many of the same functions. It allows you to use voice commends to make phone calls, play music, check the weather, get directions and more through your infotainment system. If you'd like us to walk you through how to set this up, or if there's ever anything that we may assist you with in the future, please don't hesitate to reach us here or in a private conversation for the most immediate support. We're here to help.
