2024 Silverado EV RST Displaying "4G LTE" - Where's My 5G?!

Hello OnStar Community and Support Team,

I'm posting here out of deep frustration and a growing concern about what appears to be a critical oversight in my brand-new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST.

My truck, which is supposed to be Chevrolet's flagship electric vehicle and a showcase of cutting-edge technology, consistently displays "4G LTE" for its cellular connection on the infotainment screen.

Here's why this is absolutely unacceptable and raises serious questions about GM's strategy for its premier EV:

  • My wife's 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, a less expensive model that is not positioned as the pinnacle of Chevrolet's innovation, clearly displays "5G" on its identical infotainment system.
  • Similarly, the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is also advertised and confirmed to have 5G capability and displays it.

This leads me to a very troubling conclusion: Did GM simply fail to install a 5G modem in the 2024 Silverado EV RST, while equipping its less expensive 2024 EV counterparts with this essential, future-proof technology?

If this is the case, it is a glaring and frankly shocking oversight for a vehicle of the Silverado EV RST's caliber and price point. To deliver a brand-new, top-of-the-line electric truck in 2024 with what appears to be an inferior cellular modem – a technology that is widely expected to sunset by 2030 – is deeply disappointing and casts a shadow over the vehicle's long-term relevance and value.

I was previously told by OnStar that my truck has a 5G modem but just displays 4G LTE. However, the direct comparison to other 2024 GM EVs, coupled with the lack of any visible 5G indicator on my premium truck, makes that explanation incredibly hard to believe.

I urge OnStar and GM to provide a clear, definitive answer: What exact cellular modem is installed in the 2024 Silverado EV RST, and why is its display seemingly inferior to other 2024 Chevrolet EV models? I expect a solution that aligns my flagship vehicle's connectivity, both in capability and display, with the advanced standards already present in less expensive models.

Has anyone else with a 2024 Silverado EV RST noticed this discrepancy, or received conflicting information about their modem type?
