onstar module
Onstar will not connect. 2025 Equinox purchased in late Jan. 2025 brought to dealer after contacting onstar and was told the module was out. Have joined the onstar community forum and am appalled at the number of issues reported without any result or resolution. This is absolutely unacceptable. GM should be ashamed of themselves. They are putting modules in vehicles being produced but cannot get one for a vehicle already sold. Am considering on changing brands, have always bought GM but am not pleased with the response for this issue. Also found out they now want to start charging for google maps, greed, greed, greed. SHAMEFULL!!! Please assist. Navigation doesn't work because the vehicle doesn't know where it is, outgoing phone calls doesn't work either. Very unhappy!! So far onstar support has done nothing but pass the buck and tell me to contact someonelse.OnStar Module Failure
I, like apparently 1,000's of others have had my OnStar module fail. I took my purchased new, regularly dealer serviced 2023 GMC Yukon Denali in for a simple oil change and tire rotation as usual at the 45,000 mile mark. While I was returning home, I found I had no navigation, WiFi, voice activation, phone start, etc. After contacting OnStar support, they told me it seemed to be a hardware failure. The speed with which they were able to diagnose this over the phone led me to believe this was a common thing. Based on this message board, it seems so common that it's hard to believe that a recall hasn't been issued. This is blatantly bad part. I've also since learned after returning to the dealership that I'm on the hook for $800+ in repairs with no idea when the part will be available. Now, I've got a nearly $100k truck that doesn't do half of the things I paid for. This is a ridiculous issue that GM & OnStar need to correct. How can there be 1,000's of people out there with the same issue and no desire by the manufacturer to make amends or at least have the parts readily available when these things inevitably fail?2025 Buick Enclave - Ongoing OnStar / Battery Drain Issue
Hi everyone, I’m posting to see if anyone else has been dealing with the same issue. I have a 2025 Buick Enclave that I purchased brand new about nine months ago. From the start, I’ve had recurring problems with the OnStar system and a total loss of power. The vehicle has repeatedly gone dead or failed to start. The dealer told me it’s related to a defective OnStar (telematics) module that’s been draining the battery and preventing the system from going into sleep mode. My Enclave has now spent over 30 days in the shop, and we’ve had a case open with GM for weeks — but there still isn’t a confirmed fix or part available. We have been enduring these issues while our brand new Enclave sits in the shop, and we have not received answers (from Buick or the dealer) for how it will be resolved. I wanted to share this in case other owners are experiencing similar problems or have received any updates or resolutions from GM. I have a 2016 Chevy Suburban LT with OnStar Unlimited Data Add-On. I see rampant complaints online regarding the OnStar Hotspot Services and have an equally treacherous user experience with OnStar Hotspot Unlimited Data Service compared to my AT&T Google Pixel 9 Pro XL on the road when verifying that on speed tests sitting idle at any given location I suffer non-connectivity or slow and or limited connectivity to internet data. I can assure any who read this the issue is exclusively MVNO related as many tests I have done conclude zero issues with a device connecting to the hotspot itself. The Internet gateway aka router built in works and has worked flawlessly. It's the lack of data being sent and or served from the carrier to the device. The vehicles are the device and the hotspot is under data cap restrictions causing all of the grief and heartburn millions of customers are suffering from. As a loyal OnStar customer, I am urgently calling for immediate executive intervention to address widespread issues with the Wi-Fi hotspot feature on my 2016 Chevy Suburban. I am part of a vast community of OnStar users who have been grappling with poor connectivity and speed constraints that, despite loyal usage, remain unresolved. This issue is not just about intermittent connectivity but a systemic problem rooted in the technical design of the service. Without prompt action from OnStar and GM leadership, millions of users will continue to face crippling limitations, potentially leading to serious legal implications due to unmet service expectations and lack of transparency in the advertised "unlimited" data plans. Upon activating my OnStar hotspot, I noticed critical limitations that severely hinder real-world use. Despite my extensive experience in tech support, which spans over 36 years, I struggled to understand why I was seeing drastically reduced speeds—1 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload—compared to the typical high speeds I experience with AT&T cellular data on my phone. This indicates a possible built-in throttle within the hotspot, impacting every OnStar customer using these services. Despite troubleshooting and calls to OnStar support, I learned that my usage appeared capped without sufficient transparency on these limits. This issue appears to stem from the way OnStar is handling its Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) relationship with AT&T, wherein hotspot speeds are restrained far below what is advertised or expected. Customers have a right to know that the “unlimited” plan they pay for comes with significant caps, effectively nullifying its practicality for any substantial usage. This discrepancy in service needs to be addressed immediately, both for the integrity of GM and OnStar as trustworthy brands and to avoid the risk of legal consequences due to misrepresentation of service capabilities. To address the root cause of this issue, I implore OnStar and GM executives to renegotiate their data plan structure with AT&T. It is clear that users are facing artificial caps and throttling due to restrictions imposed at the MVNO level—restrictions which should be made transparent and, ideally, removed for customers who are willing to pay for true high-speed, unlimited data. The request is simple: allow customers to pay for a genuinely unlimited hotspot option. Just as other wireless carriers have modified their offerings, OnStar must offer a tiered data structure that allows for true, unrestricted hotspot use—one that aligns with the advertised benefits and meets the high standards that GM customers expect from their vehicles. If this issue remains unresolved, OnStar risks facing class-action litigation from a growing community of frustrated users, compounded by potential regulatory scrutiny for misrepresentation. Customers deserve clear, honest communication about data limits and options for real-world performance that meets expectations. Transparency will not only protect OnStar from legal consequences but also restore trust in the service. This is a critical moment for OnStar and GM to demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation by delivering the connectivity that modern drivers expect. The opportunity is now for OnStar to lead the industry by providing a viable, consistent, and genuinely unlimited data solution for its customers. I urge you to act swiftly in addressing this issue at the executive level to avoid further dissatisfaction, negative publicity, and potential legal fallout. I have a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4 with the dramax. I just purchased a brand new iPhone 17 pro a week and a half ago. Since day one when I plug the phone into the USB-C and the USB-A port the phone charges and connects to Apple CarPlay like normal. However after approximately 5-7 minutes the phone disconnects from CarPlay but stays charging. I have tried all ports in the vehicle to include the ones in the center console. All have the same issue. I disconnect the cord and replicate it in and it connects to CarPlay again then quickly disconnects. Yes I am using apple cords, 3 different ones from the Apple Store, and have also tried an aftermarket Anker cord as well (40watts which is what the iPhone requires) I am coming from an iPhone 14 Pro Max and it worked without issues. My wife’s iPhone 14 Pro Max still works without all ports plugged in without issues. My work phone (iPhone 12) works with CarPlay without issues in all ports as well. I have contacted Apple support and send them numerous screenshots and screenshots recordings of the issue and they do not know what’s going on. I have tried the new phone (iPhone 17 Pro) in my wife’s 2021 Subaru Ascent and it works no problem. I truly believe this is just a simple update from GMC or OnStar (whoever is responsible for updating the infotainment center). I have already checked for updates and my truck is currently up to date. Can someone please shed some light on this. Thank you for the help.The OnStar Weather App was removed from service
I have read other discussions regarding this topic. The response from the Moderator was that the Weather Channel chose to discontinue providing this service about 5 months ago. This response and subsequent responses by the Moderator left me with little or no hope that OnStar was persuing a solution to the issue, just an explanation of what happened. We used the Weather Channel app frequently and thought it was removed due to an OnStar subscription issue with my 2023 Buick Envision. Unlike my Jeep, which allows Traffic LInk + Weather through SiriusXM, my Buick does not allow the addition of that app. We find the weather app to be an essential safety feature. When I purchased this car new, the Weather Channel app was an expected service through OnStar that sealed the deal for the purchase. IT'S TIME FOR ONSTAR TO RENEGOTIATE THE CONTRACT WITH THE WEATHER CHANNEL OR UPDATE THE SYSTEM SOFTWARE TO ALLOW THE SIRIUSXM TRAVEL LINK + WEATHER OPTION ON MY BUICK. EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE. EVERYTHING IS CONTRACTURAL AND I AM SURE THAT IF BUICK WANTED TO SUPPLY THIS OWNERSHIP REQUESTED APP, ONSTAR COULD RENEGOTIATE. IF THIS CANNOT BE RECTIFIED IN SHORT ORDER, NOT ONLY WILL THIS BE MY LAST GM PRODUCT, I WILL BE SELLING THIS VEHICLE AND WILL PURCHASE A COMPETITOR'S VEHICLE SO THAT I CAN ACQUIRE THIS OR A COMPARABLE APP. I'm certain that you are not shaking in your boots over my dissatisfaction, but I hope it is duly notated that you have a very dissatisfied customer for which GM has not met expectations. I hope you will rectify this issue as soon as possible.
