2023 GMC Sierra- Module Fail
I will not stop! I will take this as far as I need to! I bought my new truck I believe on March 8th! It’s been a freaking **bleep** show with OnStar since day one. The dealer had me take it back because GM had to send them a new module. However, that hasn’t worked! Nothing but issues everyday. I’m really tired of it! They need to figure it out because I’m not taking my vehicle back AGAIN as they instructed me to do the other day so that the dealer could fix my infotainment system again. All issues have to do with ONSTAR!
Reading between the lines since GM will not issue how many vehicles are being impacted. Sooo, based on the volume of complaints on forums like the OnStar Community, GM Authority, Reddit, and various vehicle-specific Facebook groups, it’s reasonable to estimate that thousands—likely tens of thousands—of GMC vehicles are impacted by the telematics module backorder issue. These are high-volume, high-trim vehicles, many with OnStar, Wi-Fi, and advanced driver assistance systems tied into the telematics module.
Multiple reports span 3+ months of waiting time without ETA. Some dealers say modules are on “national backorder,” meaning it’s not localized or limited.
GM sold over 500,000 GMC vehicles in the U.S. in 2023. If even 2–5% are affected, that’s 10,000–25,000+ vehicles waiting on a part that’s backordered with no ETA.

I think the numbers affected are higher- but I think it is also skewed based on the model bought. You have to imagine only 1 in 50 is even talking about the issues they are having. The rest are simply out there waiting. I think Onstar is really doing a poor job managing this- merely reactive with no proactive engagement. They know how many cars are affected and the owners of those cars. If they were a small business they would be closing the doors soon for their poor customer service; but alas, because of their size, they survive in spite of themselves.
There is something to be said for a company that at least tries to step up and acknowledge a crisis with its customers as opposed to ignoring one. When I go to replace my wife’s car (next up in line), I will have to think long and hard about whether we add another GM to the fleet. - JMHolgAT48 months agoNew Contributor III
I’m agree the number affected are much higher. I definitely took a conservative approach just with the estimated totals
Unfortunately, Ford knows this in my area and have been reaching out in high numbers in an effort to redirect my attention and gain me as a customer.
