GMC Terrain AT4 on beach

Hello, I am heading down to the outer banks in a few weeks and wondering  if anyone has experience with the Terrain or a similar vehicles performance driving on sand.  They recommend 4x4 but wondering if the AT4 off road mode can handle the loose sand.
