Alexa skill for My Chevrolet no longer available
"Our goal is to provide our members access to OnStar, wherever they are. We found that our members prefer to use remote commands in their vehicle mobile apps. In response, we’ve decided to end the Alexa Skill for the MyChevrolet app. With this, the Alexa Built-in will not be sunsetting, and all in vehicle functionality will remain the same. Only commands from your home to your car will be sunsetting. That being said, Members can still use remote commands to perform the same functions that were available via Alexa, with an active eligible service plan. If you have any other questions at this time, we would be happy to help. "
"the Alexa Built-in will not be sunsetting, and all in vehicle functionality will remain the same." The cars has google assistant, Alexa is not required inside the car if doesnt have at least same features. I'm not able to use it to turn on my seat heater per example or power on the A/C. I'm not able to turn on the Alexa with my voice, I need to click on it to works so is not useful or even safe to use while driving.
"That being said, Members can still use remote commands to perform the same functions that were available via Alexa, with an active eligible service plan." - Members can still use remote command using keyfob so lets remove this too, or without remote we still able to enter the car and turn on the heater so why we need OnStar feature? Who will ensure GM will keep this enabled for subscribers? Dont sell the cars with features and remove them after. People will use the feature, people buy accessories, increment their infrastructure counting on that feature. I use Alexa in my home environment for any automation. I'll not get my smartphone do open a buggy app which take minutes to execute any action on the car(when it works). it doesnt support automation, it doesnt support integration with other apps and APIs. So why I'll use it? and if I doesnt use it and oneStar doesnt have the integration I use well...I dont need OnStar subscription anymore too... this was the only reason to me to keep OnStar subscription today...
