onstar telematics module
112 TopicsMonths without OnStar Telematics
I bought a new 2026 Chevy Traverse less than a year ago. During my first year of ownership, the vehicle has spent 42 days in the shop after the ESC light tripped for the brake system. A few months later, now I'm now dealing with a failed Telematics module with no ETA for replacement parts. It's been 30 days since my dealership put in the order. My vehicle included a tech package with internet and OnStar service, neither of which work anymore. Remote start? Gone. Locate the vehicle via App? Gone. God help us if we're actually in an accident and need OnStar help. Can't connect. I'm losing value by the day with no end in sight. I cannot understand WHY replacement parts are not available for a new model. It's such a poor reflection on the GM brand.151Views0likes3CommentsReal-time traffic on infotainment maps missing - '24 Escalade
Hi - I have a 2024 Escalade ESV V with traditional nav (not Google Built-In) that had real-time traffic capabilities when I purchased the vehicle new - December 2024. It would show color-coded traffic flows on the maps and reroute when navigating if there was a road closure or crash. That functionality ceased to function somewhere around the 6 month mark - certainly by October 2025. I have been trying to get the service back ever since. I think I have every OnStar subscription possible including those that profess to provide navigation and traffic. Does anyone know the service/source of traffic data on a '24 Escalade? Who is the provider? This is not a Google Built-In vehicle. HERE confirmed they provide the maps (SD card) but not real-time data. OnStar has flip flopped between suggesting I should be able to install an app - Maps+ (manufactured by MapBox) and mistakenly sharing Google Built-In reboot procedures. Maps+ is not rendered in my infotainment - I have used it in a 2026 loaner. The vehicle has been to the dealer twice for this issue, multiple OnStar cases and now a Cadillac Customer Care case. There is a lack of clarity around the source of the data and why it is not rendering on my vehicle. The dealer today told me I did not have a radio that supports traffic, only available in the highest trim levels. I have the highest trim available that year with the AKG Studio Reference infotainment system. FYI - the infotainment firmware is dated June 2023. Searching for OTA updates produces nothing. It occurred to me that the traffic was supplied by SiriusXM in the 360L trial - they have a nav and travel subscription which supplies traffic data. SiriusXM said my vehicle does not support their traffic service. This is driving me crazy. I need a technical expert. Thanks!36Views0likes3CommentsOnStar Module Failure
I, like apparently 1,000's of others have had my OnStar module fail. I took my purchased new, regularly dealer serviced 2023 GMC Yukon Denali in for a simple oil change and tire rotation as usual at the 45,000 mile mark. While I was returning home, I found I had no navigation, WiFi, voice activation, phone start, etc. After contacting OnStar support, they told me it seemed to be a hardware failure. The speed with which they were able to diagnose this over the phone led me to believe this was a common thing. Based on this message board, it seems so common that it's hard to believe that a recall hasn't been issued. This is blatantly bad part. I've also since learned after returning to the dealership that I'm on the hook for $800+ in repairs with no idea when the part will be available. Now, I've got a nearly $100k truck that doesn't do half of the things I paid for. This is a ridiculous issue that GM & OnStar need to correct. How can there be 1,000's of people out there with the same issue and no desire by the manufacturer to make amends or at least have the parts readily available when these things inevitably fail?3KViews6likes30Comments2025 Equinox EV Gps not working
I recently bought 2025 Chevy EV Equinox and my GPS stopped working. Nothing works cannot call onstar, no connectivity cannot plan routes or find charging locations. It was hard to take it to dealership since no one wants to look at these kind of issues. Now they say that the onstar module needs to be replaced and it’s been back ordered. First time buying a GM vehicle and probably would be the last time. Dealers dont care and say it might even take longer and my lease might end before part arrives.2.8KViews0likes17CommentsOnstar in my brand new 2025 Chevrolet Traverse LT is not working even though the light is green.
My OnStar stopped working 6 days ago! I called OnStar support since this is the 3rd time this happens! The first time they were able to trouble shoot the second time it fixed itself. Now this is the 3rd time and the OnStar button is green. I called and they told me the signal was not being received by my vehicle. They tried for over an hour. Even had me go into settings which didn’t work. Now they say I have to go to the dealership to see if they can figure it out! They said my unit might need to be replaced but how!! It’s a brand new vehicle got it with 3 miles on it!5.7KViews2likes51CommentsUnable to Use Website After Logging In
My parents recently gave me their truck as a gift and they also transfered all of their GM Rewards points to me to use for Onstar. I went to go look at all of the different Onstar services to see which would best suite me and I found one. So I logged into my account that I created a while back and tried to go to the Onstar One page but it just took me back to onstar.com/trial. This would happen with any of the pages on the Onstar website, even the account. It wouldn't even actually log me in, it would for a split second and take me to shop.onstar.com but then instantly take me back to onstar.com/trial page and I wouldn't be logged in. This goes for any browser and any device. I have tried my phone, my laptop, my chromebook, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, none of them work. Can someone help please?Solved358Views1like10CommentsRecall/Class Action on Onstar Module ??
I join the many who have to have their Onstar module replaced. 2023 Yukon. No ETA from GMC on this backordered part. Time for a recall and/or Class Action! I cannot believe the number of people with the same issue! Has anyone's module come in yet?5.6KViews11likes71CommentsOnStar Module failed end October - 2025 Equinox EV LT2
Title says it all. Maps/Nav/Internet/Network provided time stopped working end of October this year. Car had under 12.000 km on it when the module went. Two weeks later got it into the dealership to confirm that the module was in fact the culprit. I asked the dealership to push software updates as I hadn’t received any, and the car decided it was finished, and died (wouldn’t turn on). They got the car turned back on the next day and a bunch of safety systems started to glitch out. Side impact warnings going off to nothing, had the forward collision system slam my brakes on doing 50km/h down an empty road. I had lane assist push the car right towards the sidewalk while in the middle of my lane. The vibration warnings in the seat stopped working as well. I’ve had to shut all this stuff off. (Funny story, the side impact stuff still goes off even though it’s off) Dealer is blaming the OnStar module for all the glitches. It’s been 5 weeks since the part was ordered, every time I contact the dealer for an update, I’m told I’ll be called back, just to hear nothing. It’s been 2 months now since the failure occurred. I’ve tried to connect the car to wifi to push updates, but it just tells me that anything I connect has limited connectivity (home internet, phone hotspot etc) and any attempt to even check for updates just results in failure. Maybe I was wrong to think that brand new vehicles shouldn’t have these issues, or that it shouldn’t take months to get a part in. Maybe I’m wrong to think that the place that sold it to me should return phone calls when they say they will. The sheer amount of issues I’ve seen with the Telematics / OnStar Modules online is staggering. Sounds like to me you have a quality issue with the manufacturer of the part. There is definitely a quantity issue as well. We shouldn’t have to wait indefinitely for a part.1.1KViews1like22CommentsOnstar Module Needs Replaced
I have a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali that I had to take in for a dealer for them to tell me the OnStar Module needed replaced. My vehicle is over the 36,000 miles so they quoted me close to $750 to fix it. This $80k truck is only a year and a half old! Mileage should have nothing to do with this part. How is this not something that is covered by GM and/or OnStar? Especially after reading about so many other brand new trucks having this issue.24KViews21likes109CommentsWifi "connected without Internet" No data plan wanted. I just want to connect to Android Auto.
I have a 2026 GMC 2500 AT4. After the trial ended for data the truck started having problems connecting to Android Auto. I have no need for a data plan so therefore I didn't sign up for any OnStar services. When I crank the truck the My GMC wifi connects but it says connected without Internet and nothing works on .my phone. It's like the wifi with no internet overrides my cellular data. The only solution is to pull over, put it in park, and hold microphone button down for 20 seconds to do a soft reset of the infotainment system. It will usually connect correctly for the rest of the day. Then the next day it does the same thing over again. It is beyond frustrating to start your vehicle and have to reset the infotainment system every single day. I have taken to service department 3 times already. They have removed negative battery cable 3 different times now. I have re added my phone wifi and Bluetooth connection several times. I got a new android phone and it still does the same thing. I have also made sure the Sharing Vehicle to Phone data is toggled off. No one seems to have a solution other than sign up for the data plan to make it work. But it clearly says in the manual that a data plan is not required. Is it the OnStar Module that is the issue?215Views1like13Comments
