“GBI” Radio/Infotainment system can’t let you edit radio presets or personalize climate settings?!

Just took delivery of our new 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali two weeks ago and have been disappointed on several issues that don’t seem to work:

I received an e-mail from OnStar that mentioned I could personalize radio presets ad climate preferences via the my GMC app. I have the APP - and been unsinnig it with pour previous 2021 GMC Canyon Denali. At one point - I had the ability to edit the radio presets - but that ability disappeared without notice and I never saw it again.

Since it was mentioned in the email that that ability WAS part of the app, I went looking for it. No Joy.

I asked about it here, and a helpful member suggested a solution. That didn’t fix the problem.

I just spent 45 minutes (idling in my driveway) with an OnStar rep trying to fix the problem. After researching, they said that my “GBI” Radio that this vehicle is equipped with can’t do this functions.

What?!

I’m not convinced that that is the ultimate answer - I would certainly think that my 2025 Denali trim level GMC has AT LEAST as much capability as my 2021 did.

I’m feeling a bit disappointed =- and that’s NOT a feeling one should have with a brand new $70,000 vehicle.

Seems I also can’t locate, download, or install the AudioBooks app, or the Weather Channel app I had in my old GMC vehicle.

Just disappointing….

I’m sure the answer is out there - I guess I just have to find the right person to ask.

  • Just to let you know "Valiant59", the weather channel app is no longer in the list of apps available on my 2020 GMC Canyon Denali. Luckly I have it installed, and it works. It also doesn't show up on my installed apps page either. Something has changed. Wait till you try the GMC Map + app. It crashes my infotainment system on 2020 canyon. Hope it works on yours if you dare to install. Too bad we can`t have apps available that really are value added. The list of apps I can install are really a waste. Only one I use is IHeart radio. If I install MAPS+ it no longer works. Welcome to the infotainment system nightmare that never gets fixed.

    Hey ReallyGM,

    Thanks for the info.

I’m becoming convinced that the “tech” in newer GM vehicles is not ready for prime time. I had a couple of bizarre episodes with our 2021 Canyon Denali that sure made it feel like we had a poltergeist. That said, the Weather Channel App was great and easy to install.

The Maps “plus” app you mentioned did install and mostly worked - but it seemed it ate up every bit of available memory/storage on the system. The AudioBooks app worked at first, then quit. The AudioBooks people refused to address the problem until I leaned on them. Finally they said the talked to the GM engineers -but seems they never got around to fixing the problem.

I cannot understand WHY there are no good apps available to download on the 2025 infotainment system. Just goofy apps by developers I’d never want to do business with. I don’t know who needs to pull their head out.

As it is, I’m STILL waiting for GM/GMC to close up the loop on the problem I originally reported here(!). They’ve sent me several emails saying it’s been escalated and somebody will get back to me “soon”. Every two weeks or so I reply to their email asking what their definition of “soon” is.

I think that GM expects you to use your iPhone or Android and link it to your vehicle. I could do that more effectively with a Bluetooth speaker. I hope I don’t have to Velcro my iPad to the dash over the infotainment system….

I’ll likely keep the truck for a few years. MAYBE GM will get back to me by the time I’m ready to trade it in.
(Do F150 owners have these problems???)
