To Whom it may concern,
I have a 2023 (7/1/23) GMC Sierra. The telematics unit was out for approx. 5 weeks before I had a dealer appt for another issue. They said i would have to work with Onstar to figure it out, so I was at the dealer and I did just that.
Onstar stated that I needed to schedule an appt. with the dealer. The dealer couldn't fit me in for another topic that day. Two weeks later the dealer stated that it was the telmatics module. It was also on backorder. It was 7 weeks since the need for a telematics module which was out of warranty. There is no future appt for the replacement do to it being on backorder.
based on my internet research there appears to be an ongoing issue with these late model Telematics Modules across multiple brands.
My questions....
Shouldn't this be covered under warranty (the dealer stated the GMC would cover half) since it is Onstar related and I have a 3-year subscription to the service?
I think Onstar needs to credit me the time on the subscription once the app starts talking to the truck again. There is no end in sight on when the issue would be fixed.
I am looking for Onstar feedback
Thanks,
DLBuff

I need to add that I believe it stopped working after the needed update by the dealer. Truck is out of warranty.... 45K miles.

There appears to be a widespread issue with the telematics module. I own a 2022 Cadillac Escalade, and my telematics module is not functioning. When I took it to Covert Cadillac in Austin, TX, the dealership informed me that I would need to pay approximately $460 just to have the module scanned to determine why it is offline—before they could even diagnose the problem or suggest next steps. Additionally, I was told that my extended warranty would not cover the module.
I agree with other customers that this issue needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau, and legal action should be considered. It is unacceptable for GM to ignore this recurring problem, especially since Cadillac issued a recall for the same issue back in 2021. Clearly, the problem was never fully resolved.
