Telematic Control Module needs replacement, but backordered with no ETA?! UNACCEPTABLE
My 2024 Equinox EV 2RS (Purchased brand new in November '24, only 1,568 miles on to-date) is now in the dealership for the third time due to what was thought to be a 12v battery problem. Turns out, it was a faulty Telematic Control Module that needs replacing, and the dealership that's working on it says GM has no timetable/ETA for the part?! The amount of posts on here reflecting how frequently this is happening should make GM want to have THOUSANDS of these parts on hand for immediate deployment, not arbitrarily informing dealerships, "There's no ETA." I'm a new mom and back to work for the first time since giving birth in October, and being unable to count on a vehicle to simply work is beyond defeating.

Same BS just happened to me. Dealer has had my 2023 Silverado for two days… I told them exactly what it was based on these threads. Lo and behold after two days they tell me telematics module died (no sh-*t Sherlock)… no ETA on replacement, and want $1,000 to fix a KNOWN issue. Anyone know a good class action lawyer because this has it written all over it.

Hello did you ever receive the part? I would really like to know. I got a a new 2025 Tahoe and did it because of the entertainment and I can’t use it. I really would have stayed in my Toyota for this.

No part. No help. Just utter disappointment. Time to hold GM and Onstar by GM accountable. Issue a RECALL….

Sameboat. 2025 Chev Equinox EV 5000 miles on it. Week 2 with no replacement in site. GM should acknowledge what the problem is. Design or supply. It is my understanding that the same module has been in production since 2015, using 4G as cellular service. Are they about to release a new module using 5G service?

I have a 2024 Traverse with 2200 miles on it. At 1500 miles I noticed I couldn't turn on the data sharing hot spot button (greyed out) have been on the phone with OnStar several times and had it to the dealer several times. Yesterday I sat at the dealership for 3 hours while they replace my Telematic Control Module. They said it was all finished. I tried to turn on the hot spot sharing data button and it still doesn't work. So even replacing the module didn't help!!!

FWIW, recent class action lawsuit against GM was represented by DiCello Levitt LLP and Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C. I believe they've made about $66M off that litigation.
I'm going to contact both firms, and see if they'd like to start another one. - Advisor_JackModerator

Looks like I am joining the group! 2024 GMC Sierra 2500. Took my truck in for the 15,000 miles service and they went to complete some warranty work. They weren't able to do that since they discovered the telematics module is bad. They supposedly ordered and I dropped off my truck back off on the 6th of May. Went by today (7 May) and the part is backordered with no ETA.

@Advisor_Helen it would be great to solve the backorders at the dealers as that seems to be a problem.

$97,000 GMC 3500 Denali that sits in the driveway unable to be used for what I bought it for...TOWING! Why? The faulty Telematic Control Module causes the trailer lights and brakes to not work. How silly is that! Found this out the hard way by getting pulled over and luckily without incident. Not having Onstar or navigation is one thing but not being able to safely tow is a much bigger issue. So now my Sierra with 7,700 miles on on it sits while I borrow or rent a tow vehicle to be able to tow trailers for work. Dealer's hands are tied and can't get mad at them for GM's complete irresponsibility on this. Once accidents and injuries happen (if they haven't already) hopefully this will get resolved. Meanwhile the frustration is building

Dang, I’m now a newbie to the group. Had my 2023 GMC Sierra AT4 in yesterday and received the same “bad telematics module” diagnosis. Hopefully we all will get some relief soon. I was given the okay to drive it, I let my onstar subscription expire and won’t be towing my boat for a couple of weeks so fingers crossed the parts Start to ship soon.

Quick question for everyone in this community… Before your Onstar modules went out, did anyone have a Park Assist Retrofit module installed as part of a GM recall? Did your Onstar module fail within a few months of the install? If so let me know… I think I might have something here as to why our systems have failed if so… Doesn’t fix the problem but at least i can confirm a cause if it is so…

Hey everyone! Just wanted everyone to know that if an Onstar representative reaches out to you and says they can help you chances are THEY CANT AND WONT… unless your car is still under warranty. My car is a 2022 Buick Envision. I have A LOT of highway miles on it… that’s why finance… my module went out in DECEMBER. Just recently a rep said they can try to help me… I even go as far as sending them a QOUTE! Well guess what…after all that back and forth the ONSTAR rep tells me they can’t help me with this because I’m out of warranty! If I still had a warranty we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now… I’d be getting the problem fixed. The whole reason for reaching out in this forum was to try to get some help…not to be told something I already know! It still doesn’t EXCUSE the fact that my car is LESS THAN 3 years old with a failed Onstar module! The part is on back order, the dealer wants to charge $1000+ to fix, and I’m STILL paying for service I don’t have SINCE DECEMBER! Does everyone see the issue here? It doesn’t matter that I’ve been a loyal customer to GM for over 30 years, it doesn’t matter that I’ve paid for the premium packages in EVERY VEHICLE I’ve owned with Onstar, none of that matters. No one cares! I think it’s time to say goodbye to GM and go with their competitors and forget Onstar altogether!
GM needs to step up their A game and issue a Customer Satisfaction recall on this module before they lose consumers by the droves! Shame on Onstar! Shame on GM!
if people are still planning a class action lawsuit IM ALL IN! - mscardona1Contributor II
Has anyone thought about taking this to the MEDIA? News outlets? Reply if you have connections… I’m camera friendly.
