Onstar Module Needs Replaced
I have a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali that I had to take in for a dealer for them to tell me the OnStar Module needed replaced. My vehicle is over the 36,000 miles so they quoted me close to $750 to fix it. This $80k truck is only a year and a half old! Mileage should have nothing to do with this part. How is this not something that is covered by GM and/or OnStar? Especially after reading about so many other brand new trucks having this issue.

I'm in the same boat here. 2023 GMC AT4X and my onstart module just "WENT OUT" Dealer walked to truck looked insided...never started it.. and says "Yup its the On Star module that went out needs to be replaced, but its on backorder and no clue when they will send out new ones, Sorry but you are possilby screwed out of the next year of service that you paid for" So hardware goes out and its my fault and the money you paid for the service is basicly a tip for what service you did recieve. Guess when its time to look for a new vehicle I will be changing brands....

I am on the same boat as many users here with these modules.
For a month now, there has been no updates from my current dealer or GM. The only emails Onstar or CustomerCare can provide currently is a "standard" ...." We are still experiencing a delay on the part(s) needed to repair". My truck is just a sitting block at the dealer since they told me I could not drive it without the Telematic Module.
I don't believe anyone is working "diligently" to do anything for the GM customers. I have called multiple GM part and dealers across multiple states (Michigan, Iowa, Florida, California, and Texas) with similar results. All dealers provided me the part number #86815701 for my vehicle....and basically told me..."Good luck finding it.....most websites say "discontinued" and there is no true ETA because they don't know who, when, or why." One of the parts specialists mentioned there being more parts being on backorder related to engine, transmission...etc.
In addition to contacting dealers, I've also emailed GM customer care directly and even reach out to Mary Barra's office, hoping to elevate the issue- but still no meaningful response or resolution. It's incredibly frustrating and disappointing to see such a lack of support.

I have been without the use of OnStar since September and I spoke with my sales rep at the dealership. As this is a well known issue, I made him call OnStar on my behalf and find out what could be done to get a prorated refund for the period I would be without the use of a subscription I was FORCED to purchase. Ultimately, they told me the dealership's OnStar liason would be able to get my contract extended for free by the number of months I was without a functional module after the replacement took place. This all hinges on when the replacement module finally becomes available.
Try reaching out to the sales representative you purchased your AT4X from or the dealership's sales manager. If you do not get a positive resolution, put them on blast on social media for selling products that have a vehicle operating system that has functionality centered around a known bad module.

My module is out too. Vehicle is a 2022. OnStar is a part of GMC why are they not doing a recall. Bad customer service OnStar and GM. Do better. Also with all these comments on your site why are you ignoring us.

Yep. Took my 2023 Yukon Denali in for an oil change at 47,000 miles. Picked it up and now the module doesn't work and needs to be replaced. $750 out of pocket with no line of sight to getting the part off backorder. What a mess GM and OnStar have on their hands. This needs to be made right.

Exact same issue with my 2022 Yukon with 48,000 miles. Interesting correlation to all the threads I have seen on here. Defective product, no recall? Class action?

our onstar was replaced within 6 months of buying our 22 yukon XL - now 2 years later its dead again...and the part is discontinued. literally WORTHLESS and makes so many features of our car useless. What a disappointment on a 80k plus vehicle. also...Boiler Up!

SAME. Oil change and update for the recall in my 2023 Denali - December 19 as well. I posted the details in another thread. Seems to be a flood of these failures. I'm going to try and opt-out of future updates until it just stops working.

My onstar module just went out at a little over the warranty. Now they want me to pay for it. My Truck, 2022 Silverado is a lease and I shouldn't be held accountable for the module going out. This is BS. They need to recall the vehicles.

I'm dealing with this now. I spoke to an OnStar rep awhile back who gave me a ticket number and a GM Service Bulletin number and told me replacement of the OnStar hardware would be covered under the recall since my warranty is out. The dealership said that is incorrect and I have to pay for the repair. The fact that this hardware is failing at the 3 year mark is ridiculous and the fact that OnStar isn't paying for this is even more ridiculous. Not only is it a widespread issue, we pay for monthly OnStar service, so this should give some sort of coverage outside of the vehicle warranty. OnStar offered me 3 months of service as compensation for my trouble. GM and OnStar need to DO BETTER for their customers!!! I'm considering buying a new vehicle, anything beside a GM product.

Update...I paid almost $1,000 to have the module replaced at a local dealer. The module was on backorder but came in within about a month. The dealer replaced it on the same day I dropped it off and it seems to be working perfectly now.

How old is your vehicle? 3 years? So, they did make you pay for the part? Did you have an extended warranty? I would think an extended warranty would cover it. Trying to figure out what to do with our 2023 Chevy truck, something is draining the battery frequently, maybe the On star from what I've seen on this blog.

There appears to be a widespread issue with the telematics module. I own a 2022 Cadillac Escalade, and my telematics module is not functioning. When I took it to Covert Cadillac in Austin, TX, the dealership informed me that I would need to pay approximately $460 just to have the module scanned to determine why it is offline—before they could even diagnose the problem or suggest next steps. Additionally, I was told that my extended warranty would not cover the module.
I agree with other customers that this issue needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau, and legal action should be considered. It is unacceptable for GM to ignore this recurring problem, especially since Cadillac issued a recall for the same issue back in 2021. Clearly, the problem was never fully resolved.

Add my 2022 Silverado to this list. $839 dollars, what a wasteful way to support GM products. GM should issue a recall and address this quality

I have a 2023 Tahoe whose OnStar has also gone out like many before me. I have been told it's a backorder module with no ETA date. Does anyone have any info on the time frame they waited for the module.
thank you.
