2024 Chevy Equinox EV - don't take the SW update
Was always nervous about taking ownership of a GM car. I did because car was so much different then any other GM I had been in. The first few months were really proving me wrong, great car ........ but I spent my hard earn money on a car that after a software update, it can't call AllStar, use navigation, Google Assistance doesn't assist, mobile app never responds (worse then normal). I did hours of investigation by my self, I did the phone button down items both as a reboot and a factory reset, neither works.
I reached out to OnStar 4 different times. First time they made me call a different number b/c they couldn't help me beyond what I already did. The second phone call had me hit the OnStar button that hung up the call. The third was decent person and realized my analysis was more thorough then her support pages and said she would connect me to level 2 support ..... they never came on the phone but told the primary support to tell me "we did a ping to your car, it will work in 2 hours". Attempt 4, sorry can't help, call this number.
Mind you, every time I called, they have no record of what was previously done and you have to go through the same shenanigans each time.
Who better to hold accountable than the dealership right? Go back to the service desk and you get, "we can't help you with that, you need to make an appointment for it to be diagnosed". $$$$. Didn't even listen to the fact that I have diagnosed 80% of the problem. Spoke to sales manager hoping he realized that less than 6 months of having the car, they are begging me to bring the car in to rotate the tires but they won't help make thing right. I might get a call next business day, we will see how much the sales manager follows through.
I am mostly confident it is the TPM that messed up after the upgrade and that I am going to fork out the $$$ to get it replaced. The only thing I am not sure of is if I can do this myself. If this wasn't an expensive vehicle, this experience alone would have result it the car being in the bottom of a pond.
GM, Dealerships, OnStar don't work together. Recommendation, don't do the software update (note: March 2025 Equinox EV)

This just happened to us. We initiated the update when prompted and then our Wi-Fi hotspot stopped working. No traffic updates, no Spotify. At the same time we are being solicited to bring in the car for routine maintenance at 2,500 miles.

The hotspot started working again after a week. When the car turned on, I was prompted to choose a data plan. Originally I ignored this because I had a data plan already and didnt want to buy another one. But out of curiosity I pressed select data plan, and then I was able to select the plan that I already had, which was good through the end of '27. By pressing that data plan, I was not charged, and all functionality returned.
